Cerebrolysin
Cerebrolysin is a complex peptide/amino-acid mixture. Individual studies report positive functional endpoints, but the current Cochrane synthesis found no demonstrated mortality benefit.
Peptipedia explains research and prescribing information. It does not replace medical advice and is not an invitation to use a substance.
Complex mixture
This is a multi-component mixture, not one chemically defined peptide.
Cerebrolysin is a porcine-brain-derived mixture of low-molecular-weight peptides and amino acids, not a single chemically defined peptide. Findings apply only to the studied preparation.

What the source shows
CARS reported improvement in a post-stroke motor endpoint. The Cochrane review of seven randomized studies found probably little to no difference in all-cause mortality and no reported combined endpoint of death or dependence.

Research gaps
- ·Results conflict by endpoint. National availability or approval in individual countries is not an EU-wide central authorization and is not presented as one here.
- ·Short profile: not a complete benefit–risk assessment. Unlisted contraindications and interactions are not adequately established in this profile; missing information does not establish safety.
Mechanism
The entire porcine-derived mixture cannot be assigned one unambiguous molecular mechanism.

Study protocols
No sufficiently supported, exactly citable study protocols are available.
Reported adverse effects
- ·Cochrane found probably little to no difference in the total number of serious events, but a possible increase in non-fatal serious adverse events. Safety findings cannot be transferred to arbitrary mixtures sold under the same name.
Contraindications and warnings
